The short version
- The calculator, the salary pages and the guides are free to use. Some pages carry a clearly labelled "Ad" block with links to partners — business bank accounts, accounting software, pension providers, comparison sites.
- If you open an account or subscribe through one of those links, the partner may pay us a commission. You pay the same whether you use our link or go direct.
- Commissions never change a tax figure. Every number on this site comes from the same calculation engine, which is tested against HMRC and Scottish Government rates before each release, and is produced before any partner block is chosen.
How partners are chosen and shown
We show partners only where the product is relevant to the page — for example, business accounts and Making Tax Digital software on the contractor calculator and self-employed guides, pension providers on pages about higher-rate tax relief, and a comparison site for current accounts and savings on lower-salary pages. One block per page, placed after the content you came for, never inside the calculator.
Where a product is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (bank accounts, pensions, ISAs, mortgages, insurance), the description in the block is the provider's own approved wording, including any risk warning. Our own text around it is factual and comparative. Nothing on this site is financial advice; if you need advice, speak to a regulated adviser.
How the links work
Partner links go through an affiliate network (such as Awin, Impact or CJ) or the provider's own partner programme. The network may set a cookie on its domain when you click, to attribute a later sign-up; we do not set any cookie and we receive no personal information about you — only aggregate counts. Links are marked rel="sponsored" so search engines know they are commercial.
Other funding
We may also show display advertising in future (Google AdSense); if we do, it will only follow your consent in the cookie banner and this page will be updated. See the privacy policy.
